In an independent or private adoption, you select the family who will raise your child. You will select parents who have been prescreened and preapproved to become adoptive parents. Independent adoptions are more flexible than agency adoptions, allowing both the adoptive parents and birth mother to establish the type of relationship and adoption that is confortable for them, without the unnecessary bureaucratic interference of an agency. That relationship can begin during pregnancy and last a lifetime. A private adoption also allows the birth mother to meet and select the adoptive parents personally, rather than rely on an adoption agency to select adoptive parents for her. That way you can feel confident in the placement of your child.
