Neither of us watch much TV. We don't have cable, and until recently, we only had one TV. We just bought a 13in TV for the kitchen. Making dinner or doing dishes is more fun when you have some distraction. Personally, I can do without TV altogether, but Carin won't have it.
On weekends, we either stay around the house or take a drive to the mountains or the ocean, both of which are about an hour away. We also ride bicycles quite a bit. Carin thinks I have too many. Together we have eight, including an old Schwinn tandem single-speed, which we love. In the summer, we love to camp or ride bikes to the lake, where we can rent kayaks.
I love to eat good food, so by necessity, I like to cook. And although I don't always eat the healthiest diet, I try to keep our meals low-fat.
I'm a reformed vegetarian, so I don't eat a lot of meat. I eat cow only a handful of times a year, preferring fish, chicken, turkey, or sometimes pork. We don't eat fast-food more than once every other month, and don't eat out much at all, because the food is always too rich. However, I do love good cheese and occasionally indulge for a special occasion. We don't drink sodas, but we do drink sparkling mineral water.
If we aren't cooking, watching a movie, or walking, we'll ride bicycles along the river to the lake, about 3 miles away for a picnic alone or with friends. On a mild summer day, we might rent some kayaks and paddle through the marshes along the bike trail.
Music is a big part in our lives as well. Carin played the drums and bass in high school, and I still love the guitar. I'm also learning to play piano, while I assemble my virtual band for home studio recordings.
Carin mostly listens now, but occasionally, I can get her to sing or play the bongos.
If we aren't playing music, we are listening to it. I have wired the house for sound (and Internet), and music is always playing. We listen to everything except hip-hop, techno, or any of the beat-heavy music, which I feel is better suited to dancing than listening.
